What is considered an appropriate and compelling circumstance?

The Trust will grant an extension under the following circumstances:

1.      You performed another term of service in AmeriCorps or Peace Corps during the seven year period;

2.      The Trust determines that you were unavoidably prevented from using the Education Award during the seven-year period.  The following are examples of situations that may warrant an extension:

·        serious illness or disability;

·        the death, serious illness, or disability of an immediate family member;

·        military service obligations;

·        important service records were destroyed or inaccessible by the program.

Note: A period of incarceration in the United States as a result of a conviction of a criminal offense will not be considered an appropriate and compelling situation.
