W-4 IRS Tax Form Overview

Completion of the W-4 tells the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) how much money to deduct from your biweekly living allowance for income taxes. Complete Step 1 by selecting your appropriate filing status. If you only complete Step 1, your withholding will be computed based on your filing status's standard deduction and tax rates, with no other adjustments

Complete Steps 2-4 ONLY if they apply to you. Your withholding will more accurately match your tax liability if you complete them.

If you claim "exempt" on the W-4 form, no money is withheld from your payments. You can claim to be "exempt," if you believe you are not obligated to pay any taxes. The eligibility requirements for exemption are listed on the W-4 form. Be sure to read the requirements before you claim "Exempt."

You can make changes to the W-4 at anytime by logging into the portal and accessing the W-4 section.

For detailed instructions about completing the W-4 form, refer to the instructions on Page 2 of the W-4 form found at www.irs.gov or contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
