A Veterans Affairs approved program is a course or program of education, apprenticeship, or job training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs or the designated state approving agency for the state where the institution is located. That institution certifies that the amount requested will be used to pay all or a part of the member’s expenses attributable to the approved program. Refunds of any education award amounts must be made to the National Service Trust.
Any member, veteran or not, whose end of service date falls on or after 10/1/09 through 12/22/11, may use awards associated with those terms of service to make payments to VA approved programs, until those awards expire. However, for awards earned with an end of service date of 12/23/11 or later, payments to VA approved programs are limited to members designated as veterans. Payments to institutions designated as both Title IV and VA approved are not restricted in this manner.
Transferred award amounts may not be included in payments for a VA approved program, unless it is also a Title IV School.
