The type of postponement may be called forbearance, deferment, grace period, in-school status or something else. Interest accrues during this period but for subsidized loans it is paid by the Department of Education (deferment); for unsubsidized loans it is paid by the borrower (forbearance). The Trust pays only the interest for which the AmeriCorps alum is responsible.
