Foster Advocates - Community Outreach Coordinator VISTA
Foster Advocates is not just our name; it’s our mission. We foster advocacy, policy change, and organizing by partnering with current and former foster youth and impacted communities. Foster Advocates is a social venture founded in 2018 to address the lack of policy and advocacy work being done to improve the foster care/child welfare space in Minnesota’s Legislature, state-level departments, and County Child Welfare Agencies. Foster Advocates is committed to serving the needs and priorities of our community. We ensure this by putting those who have lived experience in the foster care system at the center of our work. To that end, we are in the process of building an Advisory Council of former foster care recipients, as well as launching a Fostering Advocacy Fellowship to build the leadership, policy, and advocacy skills of our community. The fellows will also work to define the salient issues facing our community and sourcing possible solutions. These programs will guide the future of our work. **This position is part of the Minnesota Alliance With Youth Cohort. This cohort provides a learning community of 20 fellow VISTA members service projects geared toward educational equity. We provide monthly+ professional development training and additional support throughout the year.
