NeighborWorks VISTA Way Finders Springfield Resident Coord.
 
 
 
VISTA will work at Way Finders' in the City of Springfield as a member of the Community Building and Engagement team which strives to revitalize neighborhoods and improve resident health. Way Finders is a 40-year-old, multiservice housing organization with 240 staff that offers a breadth of training opportunities and rich experience to VISTA members. This VISTA member will collaborate with partners in the Healthy Hill Initiative, a dynamic multi-sector partnership collaborating to improve health in several neighborhoods. Our Healthy Hill partnership is committed to improving health through developing and promoting physical fitness programs for all ages, building the capacity of residents as leaders and advocates for improved physical infrastructure.

Member Duties : Collaborate with the Healthy Hill Initiative team to recruit and build the capacity of Community Advocates who advocate for improved neighborhood infrastructure and public safety. Organize monthly meetings and work with Community Advocates to sustain a long-term campaign for infrastructure and public safety improvements and implementation of Complete Streets policies. The VISTA will expand upon two existing physical activity programs: “Let’s Play” for youth, and chair aerobics for older adults. Let’s Play is supported by volunteers including Springfield College student-athletes and community police officers. Chair aerobics is a program for seniors. It has built community and has been a springboard for the Community Advocates program. The VISTA will also collaborate with the state's Safe Routes to School program to support three public schools in implementing Safe Routes to School programs.
