HandsOn VISTA - Trees Matter

Serve with Trees Matter as a part of the HandsOn VISTA Team! ABOUT THE SITE AND THE ROLE: See ‘Members Duties’ section below. ABOUT HandsOn Greater Phoenix: For nearly 25 years, HandsOn Greater Phoenix has worked with nonprofits, Title I schools, neighborhood associations and government entities to assess and meet the volunteer needs of the Greater Phoenix area. The HandsOn VISTA program supports 20 VISTA members at multiple placement sites across the valley. Our VISTA members enable our community service partners to expand capacity and build lasting infrastructure by creating the processes and tools needed to effectively access and utilize valuable resources. HandsOn VISTA members will improve their own capacity for leading communities during and beyond their terms of service by developing their knowledge, skills, and abilities related to volunteer mobilization, civic engagement, and other areas. In addition to the site-specific work of the individual role all of our VISTA members: participate in 2 AmeriCorps National Days of Service, lead projects at 2 HandsOn community service days, attend monthly VISTA team trainings with the other HandsOn VISTA members, and lead a monthly community volunteering opportunity. APPLY EARLY FOR BEST CONSIDERATION!

Member Duties : Improve educational outcomes and disaster preparedness in Phoenix by joining Trees Matter to get more trees into schools while teaching staff and students the importance of trees and caring for them! The successful applicant will build resources and curriculum for the Trees for Schools Academic Program, including figuring our appropriate teaching resources to incorporate trees into STEM, art, and physical education settings. You will work with schools and other stake holders to pilot programming, gather data, and strengthen support. You will also lead in the planning of 2-7 school plantings for the year. Published research has shown that students simply having a view of a tree from their classroom measurably improves knowledge retention and resiliency. Join Trees Matter to tackle both education and environmental challenges at the same time.
