Tillamook County Community Health Connection VISTA
 
 
 
This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. Tillamook County Health Department (TCHD), also known as Tillamook County Community Health Centers (TCCHC), is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), offering traditional Public Health services in three community health centers which provide Primary Care, dental and Integrated Behavioral Health services. TCCHC is committed to providing quality service without discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability, political beliefs, age, sexual orientation, or religious creed. No one is refused service due to inability to pay. Tillamook County Public Health focuses on prevention and uses selected interventions to prevent the spread of disease and reduce health risks. Prevention strategies are population based and designed to improve the overall health of communities. The Tillamook County Wellness Promotion & Diabetes Prevention VISTA will be a critical piece of this county’s vision, working to maintain a county wide wellness coalition and create healthy communities within the county. Tillamook County is known for its natural beauty and outdoor activities, including public beaches, abundant hiking and water trails. It is also very close to urban areas such as Mt. Hood, Portland, etc.. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Tillamook is a wonderful place to explore a future in public health.

Member Duties : The VISTA will administer, develop and enhance strategies for marketing communications to promote healthy lifestyle change, community engagement in events to low-income community members, and create information pathways for emergency responses; provide project-based support to Tillamook County Wellness Screening Committee as it relates to identifying and engaging at-risk, low-income residents in accessing resources that support reducing risk of type 2 diabetes; work collaboratively with community partners to identify optimal pathways for low-income youth engagement in the development and practice of healthy activities and choices to decrease chronic disease (especially type 2 diabetes); and support efforts to identify, develop and promote low or no cost options for healthy activities that can be accessed by low-income communities and Medicaid populations including supporting outreach to said populations that experience high rates of type 2 diabetes.
