Jefferson County Connects VISTA

This position joins the Oregon Health Authority’s statewide VISTA team. In addition to activities at your individual site, each member receives additional orientation, training throughout the year, team retreats and meetings, and the support of the team leaders and project director based at the state public health agency. For more information about the Oregon Health Authority VISTA Partnership Program, please visit: http://healthoregon.org/vista. Jefferson County Public Health is a small governmental public health agency that offers “traditional” public health services such as immunizations, early childhood education, home visiting, life affair records, environmental health, communicable disease surveillance, and reproductive health services to the 22,000 area residents. Driven by a primarily agricultural economy, many communities in Jefferson County continue to maintain the “small town appeal.” The VISTA will serve in Madras and will gain an in-depth perspective on how to support health equity amongst the diverse youth in Jefferson County schools. With an average of 300 days of sunshine and a low yearly rainfall, Jefferson County boasts some of the best fishing, hunting, camping, boating, water-skiing and rock hunting in the entire nation. With the innovative public health work happening in Oregon, Madras is a great place to explore a career in public health.
