NYC DOE OCS Communications VISTA Summer Associate

Community Schools is a cornerstone of NYC's education agenda and fundamentally changes how we all think about our schools by helping to ensure that our students' education is everyone's top priority. NYC Community Schools organize resources and share leadership so that academics, health, youth development, and family empowerment are integrated into the fabric of schools to support the whole child. In addition to helping schools implement the Community Schools strategy, the Office of Community Schools: leads policy and supports for all students in temporary housing; supports most school-based afterschool programs across the City; and oversees attendance policies and practices. The VISTA Summer Associate will: create and collect written content for social media; monitor online and social media for content related to Community Schools; develop content for weekly newsletters (staff facing and external); design templates and guides for future presentations and public materials; organize and document employee engagement events; and support the maintenance of the Community Schools website. Desired skills include: excellent oral and written communications skills, specifically across virtual platforms; sound judgment, ability to use discretion, keep matters confidential, listen well, and be objective; strong project management skills, ability to adapt to the changing needs of a fast-paced organization while remaining focused on a project’s goals and deadlines; strong computer skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Mailchimp, and the ability to master new software quickly, as needed; and comfort level with working independently and as part of a collaborative team via a remote working structure, ability to participate in ongoing Microsoft Teams calls.
