Campus Compact - UMaine

The Northern New England Campus Compact VISTA Collaboration is a full-time, post-graduate service opportunity program. VISTA members serve with K-12 schools, colleges and universities across beautiful Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont to build capacity in educational institutions fighting poverty. This VISTA Program provides high-impact professional development and training for our VISTA members. Training addresses skills required to carry out the assigned VISTA role, as well as skill-building that will be valuable to the VISTA member in their future professional pursuits. The program is a cohort-based experience that creates the opportunity to learn from peers in the program, to share what is learned in service, and to foster a supportive service year community.

Member Duties : The VISTA serving at UMaine will coordinate the Black Bear Mentors and Black Bear Tutors programs, and partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine and America Reads America Counts to support low-income and first-generation K-12 students to succeed and to increase their college aspirations. The VISTA will strengthen partnerships, recruit and train UMaine students to be tutors and mentors, refine existing trainings, improve and develop data collection and analysis tools to support assessment and evaluation, and research and develop a STEM Activities Resource Binder. Increasing student commitment to school, supporting academic success, and getting to know a college student are shown to decrease drop-out rates and increase college/career aspirations for low-income students. The BBM and BBT programs introduce low-income students to the possibilities and excite them about their future as a college student! Apply today! Priority is given to candidates that apply by June 12th.
