This position is based in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys of Colorado and is a National AmeriCorps VISTA position through United Way Battlement to the Bells (UWBB) VISTA team. All UWBB VISTA positions include an additional housing stipend of up to $300 paid directly to landlords. While this area boasts a high quality of life for visitors and many locals, many in the community struggle with issues of food insecurity and poverty. LIFT-UP (Life-Inter-Faith-Team-On-Unemployment-Poverty) is a grassroots organization providing humanitarian essentials to those most in need for nearly forty years in the Aspen to Parachute region of Colorado. LIFT-UP’s programming is primarily focused on food security, including USDA commodities such as CSFP and TEFAP, seven local food pantries, two extended food tables (soup kitchens), a non-school day lunch program, and two thrift stores. Between the seven food pantries, LIFT-UP has over 130 regular volunteers delivering thousands of pounds of food each year. Three of the pantries are run solely by volunteers. The two extended food tables provide nearly 20,000 meals a year to locals with over 200 volunteers logging hours of service. LIFT-UP has a small staff and a large cohort of volunteers who make all the essential services possible. It is for this reason that the Volunteer Program Specialist is needed to assist in creating a streamlined and efficient system for volunteer management, recruitment, and retention. The VISTA member will be a crucial asset to ensuring that LIFT-UP provides a positive experience for volunteers and clients alike in order to support a more healthy and food secure community. This position, like all UWBB VISTA positions, includes an additional $300 a month housing stipend paid directly to landlords.
