Opportunity Council - Lopez Island Housing & Volunteer YR2

This VISTA project will work with both the Lopez Island Family Resource Center and Housing Lopez. The Lopez Island Family Resource Center provides resources and guidance necessary to meet the basic needs of the entire community. Building on this foundation of well-being, we also provide educational and community engagement programs and we advocate for a more just and equitable community. Housing Lopez is a non-profit organization dedicated to solving the rental housing crisis on Lopez Island by developing dedicated, affordable, sustainable rental housing communities. The VISTA project will develop sustainable community capacity building efforts that expand and strengthen affordable rental housing for 60 low-income individuals on Lopez Island and improve volunteer efforts for a wide variety of programs and general organization support. This will help break the cycle of poverty by assuring that safe, secure, affordable rental housing and more services are available with the support of volunteers. The Opportunity Council VISTA Cohort based in Bellingham includes monthly team meetings, Professional Development opportunities, fun team-building events, and 4 annual Days of Service. The Lopez Island VISTA is invited to participate in these activities as much or as little as interest and availability allows.
