Online Education Associate (Portland, OR)
 
 
 
As the domestic arm of the global organization of Mercy Corps, Mercy Corps Northwest, located in Portland, Oregon, is focused on creating innovative solutions to tough local challenges, including limited access to finance, recidivism, structural inequality and the intergenerational cycle of poverty. The Online Education Associate VISTA member will be placed within the MCNW Oregon Women’s Business Center (WBC) COVID-Reponse Team and will assist in developing an online education platform for low income, COVID-impacted entrepreneurs. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of their time in an office setting. However, the VISTA will help to alleviate poverty in our Oregon communities by developing partnerships and awareness of MCNW entrepreneurship resources in communities that have the greatest need, while continuing to build resources into the online platform that will meet those needs. The VISTA member will support the development of online curriculum and identify and train partner organizations throughout the state that work in communities who would benefit from entrepreneurship training. The member will additionally help to develop guidelines and conventions around conducting education activities online from the MCNW Portland office and continue to expand and test curriculum to ensure it meets community needs. Additionally, the member will build out additional resources throughout the year to benefit new and existing vulnerable small businesses, helping them to respond to and recover from the impact of COVID-19, increase their financial stability, and improve their knowledge and personal financial wellbeing. As a Mercy Corps VISTA you will be part of a larger AmeriCorps VISTA cohort coordinated by Mercy Corps Northwest. Early applications strongly encouraged. Selections made on a rolling basis.

Member Duties : As a VISTA with the Mercy Corps Northwest (MCNW) Women’s Business Center COVID-Response Team, you will help develop the Online Education Project, which will enhance MCNW's capacity to support COVID-impacted, economically disadvantaged small business owners through expanded outreach and development of education assets. The VISTA will pilot a customized online education platform, develop expanded online curriculum, create connections with rural development organizations and other partners, and provide recommendations for future expansion of online offerings to support underserved entrepreneurs. Applicant should hold a four year degree in Business Administration, Education, or related field, or four years of relevant work experience, or a combination. The applicant should possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, be a self-starter, detail-oriented, and strategic thinker. Experience with distance learning platforms, training and knowledge of WordPress a plus.
