Communications and Development Associate (Salem, OR)

Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency, located in Salem, Oregon has eight programs that focus on ending poverty in Marion-Polk counties. Our community is varied, as our main office is in NE Salem, but we serve folks in both rural and urban areas throughout the Willamette Valley region. Our programs serve low-income and homeless families and individuals. The VISTA member placed at our agency will help reduce poverty by assisting in developing our communications, fundraising and donor relations capacity to increase community awareness and support of our homeless services, youth development program, and reentry services for financial literacy. AmeriCorps VISTA members perform only indirect service; interaction with clients will be limited and the member will spend the majority of their time in an office setting. However, the Community Action VISTA will play a dynamic role in ending poverty by developing the organization’s capacity to connect with businesses, schools, and the neighbors of those we serve, to establish strong community outreach, donor relations and fundraising practices. Major tasks will include developing and implementing an annual social media calendar; conducting community outreach and communications with donors; supporting the planning and implementation of a fundraising event; and developing a Communications Policies and Procedures guide. As a Community Action VISTA you will be part of a larger cohort of AmeriCorps VISTAs coordinated by Mercy Corps Northwest. Early applications strongly encouraged. Selections made on a rolling basis.
