UGA VISTA Network: 2020 ACC Library VISTA
 
 
 
The Athens-Clarke Co. Library hosts about 600,000 visits a year, including over 30,000 visits by children. Many teens and pre-teens, especially those without other after-school or childcare options, walk to the library from nearby middle, high, and elementary schools. The ACC Library VISTA will continue to support positive youth development and education for teens and pre-teens in the Athens-Clarke Co. community by enhancing partnerships, leveraging resources, and developing materials to provide cultural, educational, and enrichment programming and activities at the library. This VISTA works with and under the direction of the Teen Librarian to support comprehensive programs intended to engage a diverse population of young adults. The VISTA assesses needs, investigates and designs programming, in partnership with other local organizations and volunteers. He/she coordinates after-school programming, including promotion, volunteer recruitment, facilitation of advisory groups, program implementation, and data collection. He/she serves as a primary point of contact for after school children and families. Additionally, the VISTA plans summer programming for the following year. This position entails some evening and weekend hours to cover events. Candidates should have the ability to work well with pre-teens and teenagers, to develop relationships with community organizations and agencies, and to communicate and present effectively.

Member Duties : The ACC Library VISTA supports youth development and education for teens and pre-teens in the Athens, GA community by enhancing partnerships, leveraging resources, and developing materials to provide cultural, educational, and enrichment programming at the Athens-Clarke Co. Library. Continue to engage partner organizations for providing programming, develop new partnerships; develop and implement library after-school and summer programming (educational, enrichment, and cultural); coordinate after-school programming for teens and pre-teens at the library; promote programming to potential participants and the community; recruit and train volunteers and organizations for involvement in programming; implement programming for teens and pre-teens at the library; facilitate youth and parent advisory boards; and support/develop systems to collect results, including participation and impacts.
