UGA VISTA Network: 2020 Clarke Co Mentor Program VISTA

Some 92% of Clarke Co. School District (CCSD) students qualify for free/reduced price meals, an indicator of poverty. CCMP began in 1991 as a joint initiative of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and the CCSD to increase the number of students who graduated from high school, and who were prepared for employment or post-secondary education. CCMP supports over 300 community and University of Georgia student mentors volunteering with K-12 children in all 21 schools in the district. CCMP mentors encourage positive choices, promote high self-esteem, and support academic achievement. With many of the CCMP mentors as UGA students, this position will have a close relationship with UGA, and works with the CCMP Executive Director to support all programming, training, special events, and mentoring related community engagement initiatives for the Clarke County Mentor Program.

Member Duties : VISTA responsibilities include supporting the current mentor network, including the UGA student organization for mentors, through training, meetings, and support; recruiting and training mentors; maintaining/improving relationships with school counselors across CCSD, and with other community stakeholders and partners; developing systems for tracking mentor engagement and assessing their experiences; implementing trainings and fundraising events and maintaining CCMP social media.
