GSCM Harfor County Community Troop Project

This special troop formation initiative seeks to match girls from disadvantaged and underserved communities in Aberdeen and Joppatowne, both along the Route 40/I95 corridor. Through identified adult role models and leaders the VISTA member will develop opportunities for fun with a purpose at troop meetings, field trips and program events, and inspire young women to imagine and chart a new path for a bright successful future. These two communities present great challenges and opportunities as the needs assessment demonstrates.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will complete an asset and gap assessment of the area, and will plan the implementation of the project accordingly. They will conduct space analysis to assure safe, clean environments for small groups of children and adult volunteers. They will design and implement adult training programs in technology-delivered activities and adult and girl retention activities. The VISTA will develop a community profile, an evaluation process, resources and systems necessary for sustained implementation of troop programs in underserved communities. The VISTA member will design parent materials, and venues for parent engagement in encouraging their daughters to pursue enriching academic and career aspirations.
