TSC VISTA 2020: RAHAMA

The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of New York. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Geneva. During their term of service members will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : Resources and Help Against Marital Abuse (RAHAMA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the psychological, emotional, social well-being, and health of women and children. RAHAMA provides a safe space for survivors of domestic violence to access compassionate, culturally, and linguistically competent services by removing barriers to service for Muslim, immigrant and refugee women. The Social Media & Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for expanding social media presence, being active in board and committee monthly meetings, and helping to plan and implement fundraising events. They will work with the Director of Development for volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and management. The goal is to build capacity for RAHAMA by educating the local community and other agencies about domestic violence and our services, helping to develop a robust volunteer program, and build a dialogue about the intersection of race, religion, and immigration status on obstacles faced by victims.
