TSC VISTA 2020: Independent Health Foundation

The Service Collaborative (TSC) VISTA Program mobilizes AmeriCorps VISTA members to function in organizations, government agencies and educational institutions. Members focus on expanding educational opportunities, ensuring economic opportunity for all and creating healthy futures for the residents of New York. Our goals are to strengthen communities across the state and to allow organizations within them to better provide services to impoverished individuals and families. The Service Collaborative VISTA program has partner organizations in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Geneva. During their term of service members will receive support from our VISTA team at The Service Collaborative of WNY. Our support includes monthly trainings, a social network of fellow members and daily support from VISTA leaders.

Member Duties : The Good For The Neighborhood (GFTN) Program brings health awareness training and tools to people in at-risk and underserved neighborhoods. We believe that access to healthcare, primary care, and health literacy are not only consequences of poverty, but also causes. The GFTN VISTA member will continue work from the previous VISTA and create the capacity for establishing two additional GFTN sites. They will act as a liaison for new and existing program sites, attend population health seminars, share valuable information with sites and link resources with the populations served. This will guide and transition GFTN project sites towards self-sufficiency and sustainability. The VISTA member will work closely with site coordinators to develop community outreach tactics to improve attendance at program events. The capacity building efforts of the VISTA member will ultimately broaden the populations GFTN serves and have a deep and positive impact on community members’ health and wellbeing.
