Garden Programs Coordinator - Hands On Nashville
The Garden Programs Coordinator will support The Nashville Food Project’s (TNFP) three garden programs in program development, evaluation, and implementation. TNFP’s Production Garden is a vibrant growing space that supplies more than 25,000 servings of organic fruits and vegetables for meal programs each year. The Community Gardens provide a space for more than 80 community gardeners to grow their own vegetables. The Growing Together market garden program supports farmers who face significant barriers to farming. This position will involve meaningful experiences with farmers and community gardeners, many of whom are New Americans. An ideal candidate has a willingness to work hard, have fun, and learn among a collaborative team. TNFP is looking for a candidate who can confidently build strong relationships with program participants, is organized, and who is skilled in the creation and editing of audio, video, and visual media. The Coordinator can expect to build communication skills, gain greater understanding of program development, and enhance knowledge of food justice issues. Candidates who are bilingual are preferred. An interest in food security, horticulture, or agricultural farming is required. The Coordinator participates in a yearlong term - 1,700 hours- of AmeriCorps service supporting TNFP’s mission to bring people together to grow, cook, and share nourishing food, with the goals of cultivating community and alleviating hunger in our city. At each garden site, TNFP provides land, water, shared tools, and educational opportunities to deepen existing knowledge or skills. TNFP incorporates adult participatory education methods and trauma-informed care principles into program development.
