UMB CURE Scholars Program: College and Career Readiness
 
 
 
The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA to serve as a College and Career Coordinator to support high school students in the UMB CURE Scholars Program. The UMB CURE Scholars program was launched in October of 2015 as a groundbreaking pipeline program creating STEM and healthcare experiences for West Baltimore youth starting in middle school. While enrolled in this program, scholars in 6ththrough 12thgrade receive mentorship, tutoring, wrap-around services and hands-on exploratory experiences through field trips and out of school time programming. To ensure students have gained the technical and professional skills to be successful in college and career, the College and Career Readiness Coordinator will develop a robust program including career mentorship, academic support, guidance for the college admission process, and professional development and internship opportunities.

Member Duties : Recruit mentors and manage program logistics for the professional mentorship program, Career Navigators. -Develop curriculum of college preparedness and development of career skills for 9-12thgrade students. -Support CURE staff in tracking the academic performance of scholars to ensure students are on track to reach college and career goals. -Organize workshops during Saturday programming around professional development or college preparation. -Coordinate and distribute opportunities for scholarships and enrichment opportunities to students and families.-Work closely with Baltimore City high school guidance counselors, CollegeBound officers, and Community Schools Resource Coordinators to help C2 scholars access and utilize college and career resources at their schools. -Serve as a member of CURE’s new Scholar Success Strategic Committee
