2020-21 City of Las Vegas Chronic Absenteeism VISTA

In the 2018-2019 school year, 22 percent of students in the Clark County School District (CCSD) were absent for 18 or more school days (above the statewide rate of 19 percent). By targeting chronic absenteeism, the multi-jurisdictional collaborations intend to work with CCSD to improve academic performance, decrease the number of youth in the juvenile justice system and decrease the load of educational neglect referrals to the Department of Family Services. Clark County commissioners, the Department of Juvenile Justice Services (DJJS) and the city of Las Vegas are collaborating to reduce chronic absenteeism among students in CCSD. As a CLV Chronic Absenteeism VISTA, your service will start on Monday, August 31, 2020 and end on August 30, 2021. During this time, you will be a full-time member (35-40 hours a week) and report to work at Las Vegas City Hall. You will also receive the logistic and supervisory support from City of Las Vegas staff and will be eligible to participate in all City of Las Vegas professional development and organizational health trainings and opportunities. CLV VISTA members will help the City fulfill its core purpose of “Building Community to Make Life Better”. As a VISTA member, you are entitled to 10 personal days off for vacation or religious observances and 10 medical days off for medical leave for illness, injury or medical appointments. For VISTA members serving in Clark County, you will earn a living allowance of $479.08 per pay period (total of $12,490 for the year). In addition, for successfully completing your year of service, you have the option to be eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or the VISTA end-of-service cash stipend. The value of the education award is $6,095.00. The value of the end-of-year cash stipend is approximately $1,800.00.
