Food Program VISTA
 
 
 
Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley is the charitable branch of the Diocese of Brownsville, and serves four counties: Hidalgo, Staar, Willacy & Camerron. Two of these counties, Staar and Willacy have been named some of the poorest in the United States. Communities in these areas are made up of undocumented families who have little to no access to resources. The CCRGV Food Program aims to serve the most vulnerable within our community, children and the elderly by securing at least one nutritious meal.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will conduct outreach in targeted communities of low-income individuals with the purpose of identifying potential partnerships and improving access to nutritious food. The VISTA will also be recruiting and training volunteers to assist at sites where meals are being served. The VISTA will be asked to create a database to track current and potential partner agencies, volunteers and numbers of sites and meals served.
