Austin WIC COVID-19 Response VISTA Summer Associate
 
 
 
The Summer Associates will assist the Austin Public Health WIC Program in modifying their operations to respond to COVID-19. WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) provides food access and nutrition support to vulnerable families with children under 5 years of age in Travis and Bastrop Counties. They will assist WIC staff in contacting WIC participants and potential WIC participants to offer food benefits, instructions for using their food benefit card and referrals to other social service organizations as needed.

Member Duties : The Summer Associates will assist the WIC program with providing food benefits to clients by notifying clients of COVID-19-related operational changes. They'll contact clients by phone, text or email to instruct them on how to receive WIC benefits and how to use their benefit card. They'll explain to clients how the COVID-19 response will affect WIC Benefit Card distribution. They'll schedule re-certification appointments for clients whose benefits expire before August. The Summer Associates will also assist WIC in facilitating other client needs as necessary, such as helping clients register for WIC services, assisting in distribution of re-loaded WIC Benefits Cards, and documenting any changes to clients' information, such as schedule changes or address changes. They'll also provide information to clients, such as food assistance information, and help clients identify the appropriate social service agency if they have needs WIC cannot meet.
