*MTCC AmeriCorps - Team Member - Smelter City Rec Complex

The Smelter City Recreation Complex (SCRC) will be a multi-part community center in Anaconda, MT. Still 5 years from completion, the center will eventually be a location for fitness, wellness, sports, social, and lifelong-learning activities to take place. As the SCRC moves towards completion, young people in Anaconda need support now, and for their voices to be heard. Only 17% of adults in Anaconda-Deer Lodge county hold a bachelor’s degree or higher, and student achievement at Anaconda High School remains below the median for Montana. AmeriCorps member will facilitate youth engagement with a needs assessment so that their feedback can inform the final facilities and programming of the SCRC. By engaging young people in these important conversations, by engaging young people in these important conversations and behaving as a college positive mentor, the AmeriCorps member will help to improve outcomes for young people in the community while supporting an outlet that reduces the likelihood of youth engaging in risky behaviors.
