'20-'21 Community Outreach Coordinator VISTA, UWTC

St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) of Tacoma, Pierce County is one of the few organizations working upstream to prevent homelessness by providing spiritual, material, and direct financial assistance to those in need. We know that people who lose their homes face the uphill, seemingly impossible task of finding new housing. In providing direct financial assistance, SVDP is able to help stop the increase of homelessness in Pierce County by keeping families in their homes and providing basic needs, such as rent and utilities, through our Homelessness Prevention and Basic Needs Program. Additionally, our Second Chance Employment and Training Program provides opportunities for individuals facing employment barriers to gain the skills necessary to enter the workforce by offering hands-on training in multiple areas that are directly transferable to other employment opportunities. The VISTA will build St. Vinnie's capacity to further our mission across Pierce County. The VISTA will work directly with the Development & Volunteer Lead and Executive Director to expand and strengthen our current outreach in both our community partnerships and our volunteer base. The VISTA will be a member of United Way of Thurston County’s VISTA team, made up of 19 other VISTA members and supported by the VISTA Leader, who coordinates professional development opportunities, provides individualized support and resources, and supports the program’s success.

Member Duties : The Community Outreach Coordinator VISTA will help strengthen the capacity of our organization and key programs, St. Vinnie's Homelessness Prevention & Basic Needs Program and St. Vinnie's Second-Chance Employment & Training Program, by helping enhance the delivery of our services through leveraging community partners, building new community partnerships and expanding our volunteer support. This project will focus on capacity building to expand the scale, reach, efficiency and effectiveness of these two programs. This project will alleviate poverty by addressing two issues that impact poverty: homelessness and unemployment. As the organization continues to rely heavily on volunteers, two of the VISTA’s key objectives will be building relationships with outside organizations from which we can recruit volunteers in the future and collaborating and building partnerships with agencies that assist vulnerable populations.
