'20-'21 St. Vincent de Paul Development Associate VISTA

St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) of Tacoma, Pierce County is one of the few organizations working upstream to prevent homelessness by providing spiritual, material, and direct financial assistance to those in need. We know that people who lose their homes face the uphill, seemingly impossible task of finding new housing. In providing direct financial assistance, SVDP is able to help stop the increase of homelessness in Pierce County by keeping families in their homes and providing basic needs, such as rent and utilities, through our Homelessness Prevention and Basic Needs Program. Additionally, our Second Chance Employment and Training Program provides opportunities for individuals facing employment barriers to gain the skills necessary to enter the workforce by offering hands-on training in multiple areas that are directly transferable to other employment opportunities. The VISTA will build St. Vinnie's capacity to further our mission across Pierce County. The VISTA will work directly with the Executive Director to expand and strengthen our current outreach by seeking out sustainable partners and creating relationships with those that share the passion of preventing homelessness in Pierce County. The Development Associate VISTA will also focus on growing our current donor database through grant research, grant writing and donor stewardship. The VISTA will be a member of United Way of Thurston County’s VISTA team, made up of 19 other VISTA members and supported by the VISTA Leader, who coordinates professional development opportunities, provides individualized support and resources, and supports the program’s success.

Member Duties : The Development Associate VISTA will build capacity for St. Vincent de Paul Tacoma, Pierce by expanding financial resources for our Homelessness Prevention and Basic Needs Program and Second-Chance Employment & Training Program. Without adequate funding, our programs cannot operate at full capacity and would significantly diminish the number of persons we are able to keep in their homes and the number of persons gaining job skills by training in our thrift stores. The VISTA aims to alleviate poverty by addressing housing and employment, which can pose significant barriers. The VISTA member will work closely with the Development Lead and Executive Director to expand the capacity of St. Vincent de Paul’s programs through strategic development and expanding donor relations. The VISTA will focus on grant research and writing, strategic planning to support future engagement for sustainable income, assessing current donors, donor communication, and researching potential donors.
