'20-'21 Community Engagement Specialist at Habitat (UWTC)

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is a direct reflection of the urgent need for affordable housing in our community, especially among very low-income households. Habitat’s program is unique as we partner with families in need to provide a lasting and permanent solution to a family’s housing needs through homeownership. We are a hand up, not a hand out. Habitat homeowners participate in the building of their and other Habitat homes, investing in their future and the future of their community. The VISTA member will build additional capacity for our organization by growing our volunteer base, senior homeowner repair clientele, and community support. This member will facilitate and develop an improved volunteer experience at all levels and through all volunteer programs in our organization. Specifically, this includes: developing improved tools for volunteer orientations and training, improving the onsite volunteer experience, and developing and promoting programs to recognize the contributions of volunteers. This service will provide the volunteer resources necessary for our organization to develop affordable housing. The VISTA member will also support community engagement to build a larger brand awareness via our social media platforms. The member will develop a detailed marketing plan and outreach plan for our organization's Aging-In-Place repair program to reach qualified clients and structure to allow community volunteers to participate in this repair program. The VISTA will be a member of the Greater South Sound VISTA team, made up of 19 other VISTA members and supported by the VISTA Leader, who coordinates professional development opportunities, provides individualized support & resources & supports the program’s success.
