2020-21 2-Gen Community Engagement Coordinator VISTA

United Way of Pierce County’s (UWPC) goal is to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by lifting 15,000 households out of poverty by 2028. The VISTA member will play a crucial role in building place-based collaborations using the two-generational approach developed by The Aspen Institute. The member will serve as the community engagement coordinator for this project, working with a variety of partners in the different communities to create networked systems of supports designed to help both children and their caregivers as they move along the continuum from crisis to stability and eventually self-sufficiency. The Community Engagement Coordinator VISTA will assess community needs, develop networked systems (including social service providers, community members, businesses, faith communities and others), engage and manage volunteers, support community building and outreach, measure and evaluate efforts, and increase capacity through resource development. The central component of this work is bringing communities together and identifying ways we can collaborate and work more effectively and efficiently together to meet the needs of families in some of Pierce County’s highest-need, lowest-access neighborhoods. The VISTA member will build relationships with a wide array of stakeholders to support the development, implementation and sustainability of place-based, two-generation collaborations designed to meet the unique needs of each communities’ children and caregivers. The VISTA will be a member of the Greater South Sound VISTA team, made up of 19 other VISTA members and supported by the VISTA Leader, who coordinates professional development opportunities, provides individualized support & resources & supports the program’s success.
