21-22 Whidbey Island Nourishes SWES Nutrition Program

Whidbey Island Nourishes (WIN) is a volunteer-powered, nonprofit organization dedicated to nourishing youth on South Whidbey. Recognizing the challenges that most children have in meeting the recommended daily servings of fruit and vegetables, WIN provides a snack program for all students at South Whidbey Elementary School and partners with the South Whidbey School Farms Program to teach culinary and nutrition lessons. The snack program delivers fresh fruit and vegetables to classrooms and uses produce harvested from the School Farm as much as possible. The culinary classes help students connect to good nutrition and better appreciate the food they are growing at the School Farm. Our member will be part of a robust team of farmers, educators, volunteers and community members who are supporting hands-on healthy living options to South Whidbey students. Interviews for this position will be held in May.

They will coordinate directly with Whidbey Island Nourishes staff to procure fresh produce from vendors (the School Farm, local farms, and grocery suppliers) for the Snack Program and help coordinate parent and community volunteers and lead the preparation and delivery of snacks to the classrooms. Additionally, they will develop messaging for students, teachers and administrators, parents, and community members to help promote the impact of healthy eating.
