2020-2021 Communications Associate VISTA
The Garfield Park Community Council (GPCC) is a community-building organization made up of dedicated residents and allies working together to develop leaders and create opportunities and programs that build a vital Garfield Park community. The Communications Associate VISTA Member will work on a variety of outreach projects, including press releases, flyers, mailings, annual reports, as well as social media posts and website content. Additionally, the VISTA will assist with writing grant proposals and reports, building the capacity of the GPCC’s development department. Finally, the VISTA will help develop and revise digital outreach methods through the use of a CRM system, so that more residents in Garfield Park are aware of healthy and affordable housing resources and programs that build health and wellness in the neighborhood. The VISTA will be supervised by the Director of Development and Communications, with support from the Housing Specialist and Executive Director. Strong writing skills, attention to detail, and basic graphic design or project management skills are preferred. Garfield Park is a primarily and historically African American community, and the Garfield Park Community Council seeks VISTA members who display a commitment to racial equity and inclusion. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions.
