University of Miami - Changing Neighborhoods FLCC

The University of Miami's Office of Civic and Community Engagement (CCE) continues the Focus on Affordable Housing Initiative and seeks to build sustainability for the projects, partnerships and initiatives based in underserved neighborhoods of Miami. CCE works to address the ongoing housing and community development challenges of these communities through a multi-pronged approach. The Changing Neighborhoods & Gentrification Data Analytics VISTA program will work to develop visualizations based on gathered data from the Miami housing Solutions Lab. These visualizations will provide easily digestible visual information & insights gleaned & aggregated from multiple data sources to inform key stakeholders across municipalities. This new VISTA program will gather the aggregated data collected & compiled in the Inclusive Communities project & develop a model to create visually digestible presentations & graphics to share information to community stakeholders, nonprofits & residents to provide insights on affordable housing & displacement in vulnerable communities in South Florida. As the region continues to grow, Miami is seen by many as "ground zero" for one of the nation's pressing issues: housing affordability. Miami is in need of policy solutions that can limit growing gentrification pressures, and create a shared equity model of land development that ensures stabilization of neighborhoods to promote economic prosperity and sustainable communities. This project aims to assist with these measures.
