Urban Boatbuilders Development and Evaluation VISTA (MAWY)
Smell that sawdust! Walk into Urban Boatbuilders on a weekday after school, and you’ll find a loud, thriving workshop, with youth of all backgrounds working together to build beautiful, usable watercrafts from raw lumber. Our instructors work with youth five days a week to teach them invaluable hands-on skills through boatbuilding. Urban Boatbuilders empowers youth to build the skills they need to succeed in school, work, and life through the building and use of wooden boats. The organization’s programs provide experiential learning opportunities to middle and high school students and underserved teens. This dynamic VISTA position will build organizational capacity through volunteer management and planning and executing a new, sustainable communications strategy. The position will build capacity by creating sustainable systems that utilize current development, communications, and evaluation work to support youth who are facing a barrier to employment and/or qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch at school. **This position is part of the Minnesota Alliance With Youth Cohort. This cohort provides a learning community of 20 fellow VISTA members service projects geared toward educational equity. We provide monthly+ professional development training and additional support throughout the year.
