*MTCC Summer VISTA North Valley Food Bank

North Valley Food Bank distributes emergency food to our neighbors in need. We serve individuals experiencing temporary and chronic hunger from Eureka all the way to Browning. We serve over 400 individuals a week through our pantry; supplement Eureka, Browning, Salvation Army-Kalispell food distribution, and serve over 500 meals to children each week through our Summer Meal Program. Our mission is to collect, clean, acquire and process food for distribution to individuals and families in our community who have inadequate means to provide for their own or their family’s basic need for food. The Summer Meals program is specifically focused on providing daily supplemental lunch for youth and children in Columbia Falls, Hungry Horse, Martin City, and Coram during their summer break. Lunches are delivered to a specific location in each community every day, Monday - Friday. The sites for this project are specifically located in communities where 50 percent or more of children are eligible for free or reduced school lunch. When school is out of session students lose access to these services, which can result in insufficient nutrition for children and an increased financial strain on families with less than enough resources. Our goal is to fill that gap with nutritious lunches, and reduce the financial impacts on families. The goal of this project is to ensure that school-aged youth have access to healthy lunches while school is out of session.
