20-21 Pierce Public Works, Riparian Restoration Technician

Work with Pierce County Public Works throughout the Puyallup River Levee system and other Pierce County infrastructure and/or floodplain properties. Project is designed to control the rampant spreading of invasive weeds (primarily Knotweed) which is currently choking out other desirable and vital native vegetation. Ground and substrate will be prepared and new and appropriate habitat plantings will be planted in the place of invasive species. A crew of eight Riparian Restoration technicians will spend a typical daily shift removing invasive weed species (primarily Knotweed) from the banks of the Puyallup River System and other county infrastructure or lands by approved methods, and subsequently re-planting the weed-free areas with native plantings more conducive to riverine/riparian habitat.
