Summer VISTA Associate - Farm Volunteer Coordinator 2
 
 
 
Eating local helps to lower our carbon footprint, but growing our own produce and herbs and learning how to cook with fresh produce and preserve food also help to lower our household food budget. A VISTA Summer Associate could serve as a bridge between our highly productive urban farm and our focus on financial literacy by operating at the farm to engage with volunteers who come to help us plant, weed and harvest fruits and vegetables there. The Summer Associate also could help cultivate and leverage partnerships and recruit volunteer experts, such as master gardeners and food preservation instructors, to help individuals grow their gardening knowledge and learn how to cook, dry and can produce. In addition, they would also be keeping track of the number of volunteers and hours worked and assist with the evaluation of the volunteers’ experience.

The Farm Volunteer Coordinator will serve as a bridge between our highly productive urban farm and our focus on financial literacy by helping us form beneficial community partnerships to increase programming opportunities and recruit and manage volunteers who sign up to help us plant, weed and harvest fruits and vegetables at our farm. Duties are divided into 4 areas: 1. Plan & Execute farm workshops; 2. Outreach efforts; 3. Engage & Manage Volunteers; 4. Support in Evaluation of Volunteer Program at Splitlog Farm.
