Elizabethtown ECHOS Service Organizer - CCNYPA
This unique VISTA position is a collaboration between Elizabethtown College’s Center for Civic Engagement and Elizabethtown Community Housing & Outreach Services (ECHOS) for July 2020 - July 2021 addressing poverty and homelessness in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. ECHOS began in 2016 in recognition of a community need to assist individuals experiencing homelessness in the Elizabethtown area. ECHOS originated as a local winter shelter hosted in a community church and has grown into a housing case management/advocacy and prevention agency providing emergency winter shelter, direct services and housing related supports. The mission of ECHOS is to empower individuals by building on their strengths and securing community resources to address and prevent homelessness. The VISTA will utilize the systems developed during year 2 of the VISTA program to continue the development and implementation of an expanded multi-community homeless service program with long term supports by building capacity and developing a strong volunteer base focused on emergency shelter and housing interventions. These focus areas build long-term solutions to existing anti-poverty programs by expanding community partnerships and strengthening community network of agencies and community resources. The VISTA’S role collaborates with ECHOS to help with community outreach and coordination for the winter shelter and work to develop a volunteer base and engage students from Elizabethtown College’s Center for Civic Engagement in the operations of the winter shelter. The VISTA’s role in Year 3 will also be expanded to include building our financial base by creating a donor relationship plan and exploring foundation and grant opportunities.
