E3.20 Northeast RSDP Agriculture and Food Systems VISTA

The Northeast Regional Sustainable Development Partnership (NERSDP) is a unique citizen empowered experiment within Extension to create and increase cross-pollination between communities in Northeast Minnesota and the University of Minnesota’s resources. The NERSDP community and University work uses a lens of sustainability within four focus areas; Agriculture and Food Systems, Clean Energy, Natural Resources and Resilient Communities. This VISTA member will focus on Agriculture and Food Systems along with Resilient Communities to work on building a more just, equitable and sustainable food system. The VISTA member, with the collaboration and mentorship of David Abazs, the executive director of the NERSDP will help build the capacity of the NE food systems network and further its goal by strengthening communication, coordination, people to people exchanges in partnership with all involved. This whole-community systems and partnerships approach will attempt to bring together the many different individuals, communities and organizations working separately on this issues. Utilizing and building upon VISTA members skills in leadership, community engagement with the widening network of understanding about the capacity of the University of Minnesota and within the active communities, the impacts of the work could be transformative and life changing. The skills of the VISTA member brings with them and the added life skills learned along the way, will provide for a full and rich experience. The VISTA member will be one of 24 Ecolibrium3 Resilience Corps cohort members serving in Northeast Minnesota. Although each member is serving in a unique position, cohort members will also jointly complete one community service project of their cooperative design.
