20-21 PCC Academic Engagement Specialist (Middle School)

Peace Community Center is a non-profit organization committed to supporting Tacoma's Hilltop neighborhood children, youth and young adults to reach their full potential. The Center lives out its mission through its educationally focused programs and by building relationships that support students to be successful from elementary school through their post-secondary education. Service Team AmeriCorps members serve directly with students, their families, the schools and community members to live out this mission and serve within the Center's Elementary, Middle School or High School, College and Career Programs. At the Middle School level, Academic Engagement Specialists serve students within Jason Lee Middle School during the school day and in the after-school space, providing 1 on 1 academic coaching, tutoring, instruction, and enrichment programs. Through service and professional development, our hope is that Peace Community Center AmeriCorps members will 1. Grow as individuals through increased self-awareness and commitment to social justice based in critical self-reflection on values, identity, and worldview; 2. Develop a strong connection to community, both within the Center and the local Tacoma community through ongoing team-building and group development projects and family and community events in Tacoma; 3. Be supported and challenged to gain skills to lead as professionals in our community and to advance Peace Community Center's mission, vision, and values. Please visit our website to learn more about the Center's Service Team at peacecommunitycenter.org/serve. Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received with interviews taking place until placement is filled.
