East Side Neighborhood Services-Literacy Leader (LitMN)

East Side Neighborhood Services is seeking a Literacy Leader to support our literacy program for young people in grades K-8 and their families across six out-of-school time sites which serve approximately 250 youth each year, about 90% or more being free or reduced lunch eligible. Over the past five years only 30-40% of our elementary aged youth come to our programs reading at grade level. We know that literacy gaps start early and increase as children move through the education system unless there are effective interventions. Children of color, immigrant children and children who speak English as a second (or third) language, are often the most negatively impacted by disparities in education. Our plan is to improve our evaluation tools and process, curriculum, staff training, and opportunities for family engagement around literacy with the goal of increasing reading fluency, written and oral literacy for young people in our programs. Additional benefits include: Professional Development funds; access to weekly food donations.
