Washington & Jefferson-CCNYPA

Washington & Jefferson College seeks a dynamic, collaborative leader to serve as the City of Washington Forward Vision Project AmeriCorps VISTA for the 2020-2021 academic year. The AmeriCorps VISTA will continue to build upon programming, partnerships, and opportunities begun in the past two years to enhance the capacity of the City of Washington Community Development Corporation (Washington CDC), Washington & Jefferson College (W&J), and their community partners to effectively revitalize communities and overcome poverty through the elimination of blight and abandonment. The City of Washington is struggling with uninterrupted decline, in population, investment, and ownership. Population has declined by 10.91% since 2001, and the housing stock has continued to lose value as it ages and shows generational neglect. The VISTA will implement the programming such as Make A Difference Day and Service Saturdays begun in the first two years of the project and have substantial opportunity to further develop programs and partnerships. The AmeriCorps VISTA will also recruit and train committed student leaders on the Community Outreach Team who will sustain these programs at W&J. Our goal is to have sustainable, regular volunteer projects which enable W&J students to engage with the City of Washington to understand the issues that affect the community and have a positive impact on those concerns.
