Marion Public Library, IA&MN Campus Compact VISTA

The Marion Public Library VISTA project will serve low-income youth and adults living in Linn County by providing them an opportunity gain professional skills through the library’s volunteer program. The VISTA member will develop goals for the volunteer program, create an outreach strategy to community partners and low-income youth and adults, track volunteer efforts, and recognize volunteers for their work. The volunteer program will help participants build skills and capacity, which may help them become more employable, marketable and offer the ability to put skills, work experience and references on resumes. As a result of the VISTA project, the library will be better able to support low-income patrons and provide much needed support for library staff to devote time and resources to other programs. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. There are three focus areas, this project being in the Opportunity Corps which supports sites in long-term approaches to issues related to personal economic success including housing and employment support. Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Start date is pending/negotiable. Preference given to candidates who apply early.
