Carver Museum VISTA Summer Associate, City of Austin

Summer associates will provide educational opportunities to underserved youth in the community through the Youth Arts Safari Summer Camp a 3-week arts camp that focuses on the African American and African influence on art, music, dance and more. Associates will supervise campers’ well-being, behavior, and activities. They will assist Camp Instructors with daily classroom prep, cleanup, and the implementation of lesson plans and activities. Summer Associates will support development of other Carver Museum summer events and programming, in order to educate and enrich the historically impoverished Central East Austin neighborhood. The Summer Associates will partner and collaborate with artists and speakers in the community to provide public programs and other free educational and enrichment opportunities. Formats of the programming may include artist talks, lectures, film screenings, public program descriptions, patron resources and more. Survey the community to determine barriers for participation and what kinds of programming the targeted populations believe would be beneficial to them. Create a plan to use the survey information to make the Carver Museum’s summer programming more equitable and reflective of community needs.
