UGA VISTA 2020 GIKI Summer Associate
 
 
 
The "Grow It, Know It" program is a collaboration between the University of Georgia and the Clarke County School District. As part of the larger school garden VISTA initiative (focused on year-long programming, sustainability, composting, gardening, and instruction), the Grow It Know It summer camps engage about 20 middle school students in Athens, GA each week for six weeks of summer camp programming. Summer Associates will work with other VISTAs and school and UGA staff in all aspects of the summer program, including participant recruitment and supervision; hands-on gardening, harvesting, and composting; food preparation and preservation techniques; teamwork and “soft skills” development; educational components; and the weekly “pop-up” community lunch meal.

Member Duties : Two “Grow It Know It" Summer Associates will recruit and implement the activities for six weeks of this district-wide summer day camp in Athens, GA, now in its 7th summer. Summer Associates will lead middle school students in all parts of the initiative, including hands-on gardening, harvesting, and composting; food preparation and preservation techniques; teamwork and “soft skills” development; educational components; and the weekly “pop-up” community lunch meal.
