The City of Shinnston is seeking an outgoing individual who is eager to build capacity in community volunteerism, aimed at improving health outcomes and stimulating the local economy. Activities will include community research, and developing and implementing a volunteer management system and recruitment campaign. Volunteer projects will be designed by the member, along with members of the community, with the goal of promoting healthy activities and kickstarting economic development. This VISTA will put a primary focus on increasing volunteer involvement and effectively increasing the positive community impacts by volunteer efforts. Through community surveying and research, the VISTA will be able to determine the current needs of the community and design city-sponsored volunteer events and activities to address those needs. Additionally, the VISTA will implement a volunteer management system and recruitment campaign to accurately track volunteer-related data and establish a long-term community investment in volunteerism. The mission of the City of Shinnston includes the factors of promoting economic development within city limits, ensuring public safety and fostering community involvement. It has been proven that each of these factors directly relate to effective poverty reduction in other parts of the country.
