Cedar Rapids Public Library, IA&MN Campus Compact VISTA

The Cedar Rapids Public Library is a beacon of literacy to all who seek knowledge and understanding. We are compassionate navigators to the information, resources, and entertainment you seek. We are your library. The mission of CRPL is to connect people to information, experiences, and services that enhance their quality of life so our community can learn, enjoy, and thrive. That’s where you come in! The Cedar Rapids Public Library is seeking a VISTA Community Outreach Coordinator to help us take the next step in reaching our community outside the walls of our buildings. This position will build the capacity of the library’s school- and community-based outreach initiatives in order to reach low-income youth and those facing significant economic and transportation barriers. The position will work with multiple departments within the library to research current needs, develop sustainable operating procedures for a brand new technology-based outreach program, and create and pilot a unique school-based outreach initiative. This position serves on multiple committees throughout the community, and makes connections and build relationships with a number of library partners. At the end of your service, you will have made a long-term impact on the way the library serves its community. This project is part of the Community Corps VISTA Program, operated by Iowa & Minnesota Campus Compact. The program strives to eliminate poverty through campus-community partnerships by placing full-time capacity building support in nonprofit organizations and higher education institutions. There are three focus areas, this project being in the Education Corps, which supports sites in long-term approaches to issues related to K-12 educational success and college access including literacy programs. Please also send cover letter and resume to supervisor. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis. Preference given to candidates who apply early. Start date is an estimate.
