Double Up Food Bucks & FARM Cafe Summer Associate
 
 
 
Summer Associate VISTA members will work to ensure equitable access to local food in the High Country. One VISTA Summer Associate Member will build and implement new educational materials that can be used at summer feeding sites and farmers' markets to raise awareness about Double Up Food Bucks and farmers’ markets. This will include cooking demonstrations, recipe cards, and hosting other activities; operating a contact table to educate farmers’ market customers and producers about the Double Up Food Bucks programs; and speaking with community groups and tabling at community events. Two Summer Associates will conduct targeted outreach to summer feeding programs and area food pantries, including: preparing food for summer camp programs for low resource children and hosting cooking demonstrations and helping Hospitality House’s food service coordinator and garden coordinator to minimize food waste and prepare meals utilizing ingredients nearing expiration. They will also develop FARM Full Circle's outreach events, like creating affordable, healthy snacks and supporting the program’s recovery, production, and distribution of food. And, they will support FARM Cafe’s operations.

Member Duties : One VISTA Summer Associate member will improve the effectiveness and sustainability of BRWIA’s community engagement strategies around food security and the Double Up Food Bucks program by engaging with summer feeding programs and new partners. This includes working with Staff to build and implement new educational materials that can be used at summer feeding sites to raise awareness about the DUFB, farmers' markets, and why local food matters. Two VISTA Summer Associate members will develop BRWIA’s collaboration with F.A.R.M. Cafe programs by directly serving individuals, families, and children through normal operations and the food recovery program. This will include conducting targeted outreach to summer feeding programs and area food pantries; developing outreach events; and, supporting F.A.R.M. Cafe's operations and expanding projects.
