Summer Reads – St Cloud, MN - Promise Neighborhood (LitMN)

Promise Neighborhood is located on the SE side of St. Cloud. We have a focus on 1:1 tutoring for math & reading. You will have the chance to make a difference in our community by creating healthy relationships and inspiring a love of reading and/or math with some of our kids. You will have a chance to help increase their self-esteem and confidence to help them reach their full potential. Summer Reads Mentors will build community relationships and have the chance to network within the community. Many AmeriCorps VISTA members move on to become employees or volunteers because they enjoyed the position so much. You will have the freedom to create different literacy activities/projects. The need to increase literacy with our youth is exponential! We are looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy, creative, self-starter, enjoys working with kids, has the ability to provide a positive experience for the kids, works well with others, is adaptable, enjoys being outside, & has a love for reading and education. *Positions are part of Literacy Minnesota’s Summer Reads program, which trains and places about 60 AmeriCorps VISTA members as K-5 children’s literacy mentors in schools, libraries and out-of-school-time programs. About half of members serve outside the Twin Cities metro.

Member Duties : We are looking to fill 2 Summer Reads positions in the St Cloud Area. Member duties include but are not limited to: reading to youth, attending field trips, assisting with events, attending staff meetings, assisting with food shelf and distribution of food, creating literacy activities, assisting with small group activities, working with the team to complete tasks, cleaning/sanitizing, some arts and crafts and possibly collecting or organizing data related to literacy. *Members serve full-time, approximately 40 hours per week, primarily Mon - Fri. Literacy Minnesota provides member trainings on most Fridays. Term of service is June 13–August 7. Orientation takes place virtually June 13-17. Multiple positions available. Literacy Minnesota fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
