2020-2021 Neighborhood Revitalization Program VISTA
 
 
 
DuPage Habitat for Humanity’s vision is to provide everyone with a decent place to live. The Neighborhood Revitalization Coordinator will work with community members and partners to research and design programs alongside of residents to implement a sustainability model for the current neighborhood in the Neighborhood Revitalization (NR) program. This VISTA will assess the four initiatives: clean-up/green-up, affordable housing, family and education, and job/economic development. Utilizing the Quality of Life Framework as a guide this VISTA will work to alleviate families burdened by poverty, working alongside residents helping them build youth programming, access to affordable housing and other resources. This work will establish best practices for DuPage Habitat for Humanity to bring Neighborhood Revitalization to another neighborhood. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to multi-task, the ability to travel throughout the neighborhood and engage in door knocking efforts and is ready to be part of a team with a shared mission of supporting neighborhood revitalization. This candidate should also have an ability to work with and motivate diverse resident populations. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions. Member Duties : 1) Explore the policies and procedures, leadership and resources that are currently in place at the site and identify best practices from other programs. Identify what additional needs the project requires. Document research, communicate findings to the project sponsor, and gain further direction to move forward with developing an enhanced program. 2) Based on the information gathered, develop 5 systems or programs that will address the programs of the host site and are sustainable: improved data gathering methods or storage, policies that are more efficient and procedures, improved community interaction and increased leveraging of resources, community engagement and support, etc. 3) Implement the new and/or improved system or program: setting up systems, documenting the new policies and procedures, training others to use it, putting in place a schedule, securing resources or implementing an event plan.
